Nothing Gold Can Stay

I am excited to have recently posted my work off to be a part of the ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ show which is being held at the Swoon Gallery (Los Angeles, CA 90026) on Friday the 21st of June 2013. The work will be available to buy directly from the gallery on the day.

The participating artists are: Betso, Brittany Hanks, Dear Earthling, Erica Calardo, Jeremiah Ketner, Juan Muniz, June Leeloo, Juuri, Laurie McClave, Megan Frauenhoffer, Mimi Yoon, Ryan Myers, Raul Guerra and me!

The theme of the show is a poem by Robert Frost and the idea that we would create our work using real gold leaf. I have made my pieces look aged and worn with their gold leaf wearing away to capture the just of Frosts’ poem.

‘Nature’s first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.’

Birch below and Fern above are two OOAK Fenegryg sets I created for this exhibition, incorporating vintage gold/yellow cottons that I stained with worn gold leaf faces. They are wrapped in twine to hold the babies to the Mums.

I also created two very special, Fossilised Morrow specimens that I have mounted onto wooden plaques. These are a three tiered design, each with a fossilised creature and completed with hand painted details, moss and gold leaf.
