Bird House Maker Competition
I am excited to say I am one of 40 artists chosen to partake in the ‘We Make – Open House’ exhibition.? It takes place on Tuesday April 19th at Tillamook Station.? Doors open at 4pm and bidding closes at 8:30pm.? All proceeds go to ‘The Right Brain Initiative’.
The event is free and open to everyone.
Here is my finished piece for the show titled ‘Make a little Birdhouse in your soul’.? True to my style there is a Fretful-Nag and a Worry living inside this birdhouse.? The piece itself is created from a combination of apoxy clay, potters clay, sculpey, felting, found objects, vintage cotton and string.? Everything is hand sculpted, textured and painted.
Theres a ladder up to the door, a warm nest waiting inside, two critters trying to peep, a snail slithering along the top and an acorn bowl full of tasty watch parts.? What more could a Fretful-Nag need!
*The Fretful-Nag is one of the Monstrous Emotions from the Feelings range.? It looks a little bird like which is why I chose it to live in this abode, but represents that horrible feeling you sometimes wake up with.? The one where you are worried and stressed and tense because of…… because of….. you can’t remember.? You spend all morning worrying about this thing hanging over you, but you just can’t remember what it is you’re feeling so nauseous about.? Then suddenly you realise it’s nothing.? You must have dreamt of an old worry or a made up one, because it’s dawned on you that there was simply NOTHING to feel worried about; so you’ve wasted hours nursing that knot in your tummy.? THAT’S a Fretful-Nag (the only words I could find to describe it fully).*
