Practically purple
I think the best way to start my Year 7’s off in art is to explore colour. We look at colour theory, wheels, mixing etc but we also experiment with colour.
Each week I name a colour (primary then secondary) and the students can use anything in the room to create a double page spread of that colour. This week was purple.
I love the way the room changes mood and becomes a sea of colour. Each week it’s completely different. Purple we found to be quite calming.
At my previous job I was linked to both the art department and the English department and have always enjoyed combining art and language so my students have been challenged to add poetry to their layouts. Some opting for alliteration and others opting for more classic verse.
